In a historic move for karnataka Neelamani N Raju became the first woman officer to head the state police force and hold the position of Director General and Inspector General of Police. The 1983 batch IPS Officer took over from R.K Dutta who retired on Tuesday. speaking to officers soon after receiving the baton from her predecessor Ms Raju said that she considered herself an officer first and did not attribute her appointment to her gender :This is how I am trained she said. nevertheless her selection as police chief has raised the morale of younger women IPS officers in force.
